Maggie's first communion today wasn't planned . . . it just sort of happened. It was still very sweet.
Maggie has done well the last several weeks sitting through the entire worship service. Today when it was my turn to go to the altar for Communion, I took Maggie with me to see how she would do. In the Methodist church, all. . . young and old . . . are welcome at the Table. Maggie certainly didn't understand the meaning behind the bread and the cup (of grape juice!), but this experience exposed her to a service that one day will mean something to her.
I shared my bread with her, and let her sip half of my juice (today it was served in individual tiny cups). She was very well behaved- I was fully expecting her to say, "More!" when one little bite of bread wasn't enough, but she was content. She did slurp the juice to the last drop, but I'm sure Jesus was smiling at her eagerness to partake of His body.
When Brendon and I got married at that altar almost 5 years ago, Maggie was just a twinkle in our eyes! Now she is an "active" member of the Church.

Our church lets young children partake too, I love watching the little children grow in reverence and understanding of the meaning of communion, I think sometimes the little ones are more thoughtful about it that the adults. Love reading about Maggie's experiences on the blog.
What a wonderful memory you have of Maggie's First Communion.
