A Tale of Two Santas

Getting a good picture of Maggie with Santa has been like my Holy Grail. Her first Christmas, at just 9 months old, she sat on Santa's lap, looked up, and started crying. The photographer did get two decent shots (click here to see the pictures).

Last year, at just over a year and a half, Maggie was so clingy to me that I asked Brendon to take her to see Santa. She would have no part of it, though, and the photographer got zero shots. Luckily, a few weeks later, she agreed to get close enough to another Santa, that I was able to get a picture of them together (click here to see the picture).

This year I was holding my breath that Maggie would agree to sit on Santa's lap. A two-year-old is very unpredictable, though. A few weeks ago we saw our first Santa of the season. Maggie was like a totally different child than in years past. She was confidant, cooperative, and independent, and was happy to sit on Santa's lap and tell him what she wants.

Then she enjoyed story time with Mrs. Claus. In fact, she sort of took over story time, asking the other children questions about the book Mrs. Claus was reading!

Today we saw our second Santa of the season at our local photographer's studio. (This Santa is special to us. His wife gave me my first job out of grad school, and was the best boss for years until her retirement.) I wasn't too worried about the session because I knew I had at least one good picture of Maggie with Santa already. Once again, Maggie walked right up to him and started chatting away like he was an old friend. Instead of telling him what she wants, she started emphatically telling him about a movie she saw the other night- "Santa Paws". Look at her shaking her finger as she talks!

Then the photographer asked Maggie to pull Santa's beard! Later I asked her what his beard felt like. She said, "Snow"!

When we got home, I asked Maggie where Mrs. Claus was today. Maggie said, "She's at home working with the dwarves." I thought that was so cute that Maggie got the elves confused with Snow White's dwarves! I bet the "dwarves" are busy working on Maggie's surprises!

Beautiful pictures of Maggie. She sure has changed a lot since the first picture with Santa. Such a pretty little girl!
