Last Wednesday on Maggie's birthday we went to the Museum of Life and Science in Durham. First we went to the Butterfly House, a huge greenhouse-type building, full of tropical plants, flowers, and colorful butterflies. Maggie was a little overwhelmed by the tall plants, but she liked looking at the butterflies.

A butterfly landed on Brendon:

Then we visited the farm animals. Here Maggie "reads" the sign about the sheep:

Maggie likes "Dinosaur Train" and "Dino Dan" on t.v., so she enjoyed walking on the dinosaur trail:

Maggie's foot on a dinosaur footprint:

"Mama Bear" and "Goldilocks" watch the bears:

Then we had a picnic, and Maggie ate her rice krispie treat "wand" from her birthday party:

The museum had a play area for kids under 6. Maggie played in the housekeeping area, painted on an easel, climbed into a fort, and rolled balls down ramps.

Maggie really liked the drums:

Next up was a 10-minute train ride. We pointed out the conductor to Maggie, and she called him the "train doctor"! She wasn't crazy about the train ride, especially going through the tunnel, but she never cried. She just cuddled me tightly!

Finally, Maggie played on the playground and in the sand box:

This museum offers a wide variety of activities that appeal to kids of all ages! It was hard to fit everything into a single visit.
