. . . and the royal wedding of William and Kate. . .
April 29, 2011

The royal wedding was captivating and full of pomp and circumstance. The more I watched, though, I realized that every bride is a princess on her wedding day, walking down the aisle to wed her prince. Five years and one week ago, I revealed my "top secret" dress and also walked down an aisle of red carpet . . . but it wasn't a four-minute long walk!
I saw the Queen's menu for the reception she hosted after the wedding, and saw that we have something in common- we had cheese straws at our reception, too!
Instead of horse-drawn carriage and "Aston Martin" like William & Kate, our getaway car was Brendon's speedy Subaru.
On our first anniversary, we got our carriage ride in Pinehurst.

The "twinkle in our eyes" has grown into an entertaining two year old, and she and I enjoyed watching some of the wedding festivities today. When Maggie woke up this morning, I told her that she was going to get to see a prince and princess coming out of a castle. All through breakfast, she kept asking, "Where's Cinderella?!" She was glued to the screen when the newlyweds emerged from the balcony of Buckingham Palace. After their first kiss, Maggie said, "Kiss again!" I told Maggie that when she was a very, very tiny baby inside of my belly, she had been to that "castle":

Throughout the morning Maggie and I got into the royal wedding spirit. First, I pulled out my wedding dress, which I haven't touched in 5 years! Maggie had never seen it in person. Before I could even take it out of the bag, she repeated, "Maggie put it on please! Maggie put it on please!!"
It was so heavy that she couldn't move! So, I put it on, and she wore her new Cinderella dress. (Wearing my wedding dress reminded me of this episode of "Friends", where Monica, Phoebe, and Rachel wear wedding dresses to do the dishes and watch t.v.!)
She also tried on my veil, wedding shoes, garter, and tiara.

Other royal wedding day activities included a princess puzzle and a tea party:

One final thought- the following image of the little bridesmaid covering her ears as the planes flew over Buckingham Palace reminded me SO much of Maggie. She covers her ears at the slightest noise.
I was only 2 years old when Diana and Charles got married 30 years ago, but I still remember their wedding. Hopefully Maggie will remember this historic day as well.

Holly you are a wonderful Mother. I think you could write a book. Love the way you tell the stories of all the things you do with Maggie. Love the pictures too. She is so smart.
