Maggie has had several big "firsts" lately. A few weeks ago we took her to see her first movie in a theatre: "The Muppets".
Although Maggie didn't know a lot about the Muppets, she really enjoyed the movie and stayed seated and attentive the entire time! We took my old Muppets stuffed animals to the movie, too!
Yesterday she had another first that was not quite as fun as the movies- her first visit to the dentist! A few weeks ago she watched me get my teeth cleaned. The dental hygienist and dentist were so nice to her that day and gave her lots of princess stickers! I decided to make an appointment for her soon so that she wouldn't forget that the dentist's office is not a bad place. We talked a lot about her first visit, and she watched this video over and over about the elves getting their teeth cleaned before Christmas! So, we took her elf, Elliott, with us to the dentist to watch over her and report back to Santa.
Maggie still wasn't quite sure about her turn in the dentist's chair. She kept saying, "Maybe when I'm taller." All of the hygienists and the dentist were so patient and kind to Maggie. After much explanation about each tool (the mirror, light, chair, and gloves), Maggie agreed to sit in my lap in the chair. She leaned back on me and let the dentist "count her teeth". The dentist raved about how clean Maggie's teeth are! She has always been so good about letting us brush her teeth thoroughly. Today's visit was just for a visual inspection of Maggie's teeth, not a regular teeth cleaning, which won't happen until she's older.
Dr. Fisher, pictured above with Maggie, was my first dentist (at or near Maggie's age), and I've seen him every six months since then! I may have actually been more stubborn than Maggie! I refused to use toothpaste, so Dr. Fisher prescribed a clear, sweet syrup to use in its place. He's also the person who pulled almost all of my teeth! My teeth were stubborn, too, and just wouldn't let go, so the dentist pulled them when it was time.
When Maggie left, she got two handfuls of prizes: stickers, toothpaste, toothbrush, and a toy car. I'd already promised her a trip to the dollar store to pick out a prize afterwards if she cooperated. My little girl is growing up!
