Princess Fairy Rides the Ferry

We recently visited the NC Aquarium in Ft. Fisher, which we also went to last September. This time we decided to take the ferry from Southport to Ft. Fisher, which we thought Maggie would love. She had been on a ferry last November in Virginia and really enjoyed it. This time was much, much different. She was begging and crying not to go on the ferry before we even boarded! Somehow I convinced her to get out of the van for this picture.

Once on the ferry the crying escalated. We were "that van" that everyone was looking at (or so it felt). We had no choice but to roll our windows down because it was so hot, but then everyone could hear the crying. I'm not exactly sure what Maggie was afraid of. It wasn't too loud, and she had the comfort of the van around her. I think it was just the fear of the unknown. Toward the end of the ride, she said, "I love the ferry!" and posed for a picture briefly outside of the van (good example of the quick mood swings of a two-year-old!). Thank goodness we could drive on a road to leave Ft. Fisher and not be stuck taking the ferry ride back.

A lot changes in a year. At age one Maggie loved the ferry, but was afraid of the divers in the tank at the aquarium. This year, at age two, Maggie was scared of the ferry, but loved the divers in the tank! She liked watching them clean the tank, and she waved to them a lot!

Maggie was very brave and petted the horseshoe crabs! Last year Maggie concentrated at each tank, but this year, Maggie darted from tank to tank (and floor to floor of the aquarium!), saying, "More fish, more fish!"
We also squeezed in a visit to the beach that day, but that'll be another post!
