With the heat and humidity we've been having lately, it's hard to believe that Christmas is only 3 months away! I certainly don't want to skip over fall, but I think Maggie does. Several times lately she has begged for snow!
Maggie is also excited about holiday baking. The other night she saw a Christmas-tree shaped cookie container of mine. She told me all about what kind of cookies we need to bake for Christmas. I asked her if she'd leave some cookies for Santa, and she said, "Yes . . . and leave some for Jesus!" She already knows the true reason for the season!
I'm trying to prep Maggie for the more imminent holidays, like Halloween. She enjoys looking at the Halloween decorations in our neighborhood and in stores (maybe she's confused because several stores already have out Christmas decorations!). Since I'm not sure if she remembers Halloween from last year, I've explained to her that she can wear a costume and walk through the neighborhood. She told me that she wants to be a chicken!! I have no idea where she got that idea, but I'm sure it'll change between now and Halloween.
It's interesting to watch Maggie learning concepts that relate to time. She understands terms like first, next, and last. She still mixes up the terms breakfast, lunch, and supper. Maggie has an extremely good memory and often refers to things we've done in the previous days or weeks, but she says we did them "last year". I'm sure a few weeks probably feels like a year to her . . . for me, however, a year in Maggie's life seems like a few weeks. She is growing up (and I do mean up - she's getting so tall!) too fast!
