I thought it was precious the first time Maggie took Communion back in February, but today may have been even sweeter. A few weeks ago at church we had Communion, and Maggie became a little agitated when we walked back to our pew a different way than we had left it. So, before we walked to the altar today, I explained to her which way we would return to our seats. She held my hand walking up my aisle, knelt on the altar between me and Brendon, and continued to hold my hand. Her eyes were barely above the altar, so I told her she could stand if she wanted to. She wanted to be just like us, though, and continued to kneel.
Our Communion is served in various ways. Sometimes the juice is served in little individual cups (like last time), and other times we dip our bread into the communal cup (like today). Maggie followed my directions to hold onto her bread until the cup was passed. When the preacher offered her the cup, she patiently dipped her bread and ate it. She stayed silently kneeling until we were dismissed to return to our seats and held my hand to walk up a different aisle back to our pew.
I don't know when I've ever seen her that serious and reverent, especially when there were so many things that could have distracted her. As my mom said, "I hope I never forget that mental image" of my blonde, curly-headed sweetheart kneeling between her daddy and me, partaking in the Holy Meal.

What a beautiful story Holly. I can't believe how smart Maggie is. I know you and Brendon are very proud of her. She is just precious!
